BT Gateway Data Center, Royse City, Texas

Giga Energy plans a $384 million data center on County Road 2656 near Royse City, in Hunt County, Texas, on about 30 acres, calling it a micro data center for artificial intelligence computing. The project was first registered with the state on June 23, 2026 as BT Gateway Data Center LLC; in July, county officials said Giga Energy had taken it over, and state records now list the owner as Giga AFM LLC of Buna.

Water has become one of the main worries for neighbors, company co-founder Brent Whitehead told the county commissioners court in July 2026. He said a closed-loop cooling system, filled once with water and glycol, would hold yearly use to about that of two and a half homes, mostly for restrooms and sinks. On noise, he promised ground-level equipment, a permanent sound wall and studies meant to keep road traffic louder than the finished plant.

Whitehead said Hunt County was chosen because unused electrical capacity is already available through Farmers Electric Cooperative, so no new substation is needed, and that Giga would pay for any upgrades itself. The company is not seeking tax abatements, and estimates about $7.2 million a year in county property tax, 300 construction jobs and 20 to 24 permanent technical jobs. The state filing gives no megawatt figure, cooling method or water demand.

Data Center Dynamics reported that BT Gateway Data Center LLC shares an address with Belltown Power, a Texas renewable energy developer that lists ten data center sites totaling 4.1 gigawatts, suggesting Belltown may have a bigger hand in the project than Giga has said. Giga held a town hall on July 30, 2026, at Smoke Sessions BBQ in Royse City; the company targets completion in mid-2027, and no report on the meeting has been published since.
