Data centers in Dallas County, Texas: 15 projects mapped
Dallas County is home ground for the Texas data center industry. Colocation and enterprise buildings, among them DataBank's downtown Dallas hub, Equinix's Infomart campus and NTT's Garland campus, have operated along North Central Expressway and the Telecom Corridor for more than a decade. KERA reported in September 2026 that North Texas has become the country's top primary data center market, according to Cushman and Wakefield. The newest wave of large campuses is in the county's rural southeast corner, around Wilmer and Lancaster.
Wilmer, a town of about 7,000 long zoned for warehouses, is getting two campuses: QTS is building southwest of town, and Stream Data Centers filed for a 48-megawatt, $300 million building at 930 N Sunrise Road, part of a 140-acre campus Stream says is designed for 240 megawatts. Mayor Sheila Petta said the campuses could bring the city up to $3 million a year, but residents at a June meeting wanted a grocery store and fixed water lines first. "We're just gonna be data centers," said Moses Garcia, who won a council seat in May by two votes on a promise to push restrictions. Several Wilmer officials resigned or were fired amid the debate, KERA reported.

Inside Dallas the issue is zoning: the Dallas Morning News counted nearly two dozen smaller data centers in the city, worth a combined $1.5 billion, most built by right because city code treats them as communications facilities. In September 2026 a bitcoin-mining facility, the Danik Data Center, went up in the Joppa neighborhood off I-45 with no notice to neighbors. "How were they able to get that approved so quickly?" asked resident Yvette Evans. Five council members, led by Chad West, are pushing the city to require zoning approval for future data centers.
Mesquite is writing rules after the fact: in March 2026 the council denied a zoning change for a data center on Long Creek Road, but staff said it was already a permitted use by right, so it can proceed. In June, council members were briefed on proposed standards, including a water impact plan and a 65-decibel noise cap, that would not apply to projects already underway.
