NTT Global Data Centers data centers: 36 sites mapped

NTT Global Data Centers, the data center arm of Japan's NTT Data, has three big projects moving through local review with little public opposition so far: in Nierstein, Germany; Mesa, Arizona; and Chiba, Japan.

In Germany, where much of its portfolio came from its 2015 purchase of e-shelter, NTT already runs four sites near Frankfurt. In December 2025 the Nierstein city council unanimously approved plans for FRA6, a 482 megawatt campus of about nine buildings on the former US Army Anderson Barracks, about 30 miles south of Frankfurt; reports suggest groundbreaking in early 2027 and opening in 2029.

In Mesa, NTT paid $300 million for a 170-acre site at Pecos and Crismon roads, a mile north of Queen Creek, for seven buildings totaling 2.3 million square feet. The city's planning board voted unanimously on May 13, 2026 to recommend approval, and required a new landscaping plan after the board chair objected that the proposed trees were not suited to Arizona. A council hearing set for June 8 was pushed back to later in the summer; no result has been published since. NTT says each building will use a closed-loop cooling system, filled once, with no ongoing water loss.

In Japan, NTT began building TKY12 in the Inzai-Shiroi area of Chiba Prefecture in April 2026, six buildings totaling about 200 megawatts, next to its 50 megawatt TKY11 site due in 2027. Its first phase will not open before 2030 because it depends on the local utility connecting power.
