Johor is where Malaysia's data center boom is concentrated, with 15 of the country's 26 tracked projects. YTL Power runs 600 megawatts of operating capacity at its Kulai park, and STACK Infrastructure is building a 220-megawatt campus in two buildings at Iskandar Puteri, due to start delivering space in late 2026. AirTrunk opened its first Johor Bahru site in 2024 and plans two more facilities, JHB3 and JHB4, adding more than 280 megawatts. On February 24, 2026, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia had stopped accepting new applications for data centers that are not built for artificial intelligence, citing pressure on power and water.

Water use is the flashpoint. AirTrunk says its planned JHB3 and JHB4 will run on recycled water. In August 2026, YTL and JLand announced a separate gigawatt-scale campus at Sedenak Tech Park West, next to YTL's existing Kulai park. Thirteen of the tracked Malaysian projects, including several large Johor sites, do not have a public construction status yet.

Selangor has the country's other big cluster: Vantage Data Centers is building a 436-megawatt campus at Cyberjaya, and Google is building a 100-megawatt site at Elmina Business Park. In July 2026, a proposed data center in Petaling Jaya's Kota Damansara was withdrawn by its developer after residents objected.
