Data centers in Johor: 13 projects mapped

By November 2025 Johor the state had approved 51 projects, with 17 running, 11 under construction and 23 not yet started, w.media reported. Around Kulai and Sedenak Tech Park sit YTL's Green Data Center Park, planned for up to 600 megawatts of power with its first 72 megawatts running, and Vantage's JHB1 campus, which Vantage says will reach more than 300 megawatts across three buildings. In Iskandar Puteri, STACK is building a 220-megawatt campus due to open in late 2026, and AirTrunk plans two more campuses, JHB3 and JHB4, of more than 280 megawatts.

Water is the local fight. In November 2025 the state told developers whose cooling depends on water to wait until mid-2027 for new supply, and stopped approving Tier 1 and Tier 2 data centers, which it says use far more water. That month a sand mining accident cut water to more than half of Johor's 1.7 million residents, sometimes for up to 12 hours. In February 2026 residents of Gelang Patah protested outside a data center construction site because they feared there would not be enough water left for them, The Diplomat reported.

Every new project now goes to a state technical committee that checks its water and power needs. "Even if a data centre achieves a WUE below 1.8, approval still depends on the availability of sufficient water," state official Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said, referring to the state's water-efficiency limit. Some operators, including Bridge Data Centres, cool with treated sewage water instead of the public supply, and a new treatment plant at Semanggar is being built to add 50 million liters a day for Kulai and Sedenak.
