Google's Storey County data center in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center, east of Reno in Storey County, Nevada, has operated since 2021, and the research group Epoch AI estimates it now draws about 161 megawatts of power across two buildings. Epoch AI's satellite images show a third building's foundation under way, and it projects the campus will reach about 300 megawatts by the second quarter of 2027.

The campus is one of Google's rare dry-cooled sites, using air rather than water to cool its servers, which Epoch AI calls likely an adaptation to water-scarce Nevada. Google says it began using geothermal energy to power the campus and has invested more than $6 billion in Nevada since building its Henderson data center in 2019 and this one in 2021.

Water is the open question for the park as a whole: its developer and the Tahoe-Reno Industrial General Improvement District, which supplies water to its companies, are fighting in court over whether there is enough. The district says shortfalls have already happened and will grow as the park fills, while the developer says companies use less than they are entitled to, leaving "a substantial surplus of water rights." "If TRIGID loses this lawsuit, it will become increasingly difficult for TRIGID to serve the water entitlements sold by the Master Developer to TRI Center landowners," said Clay Mitchell, a Storey County commissioner and district board member.

A jury trial in that water lawsuit is scheduled for May 2027 unless the two sides settle first.
