Lifeline Data Center, Indianapolis, Indiana

Lifeline Data Centers, a colocation company, runs its Indianapolis data center from the building it calls Eastgate, at 401 North Shadeland Avenue in Marion County. The company bought the 40 acre former Eastgate shopping center in May 2008 from JTL Capital of Dallas, and in 2011 the City-County Council voted 23 to 6 to lease 76,000 square feet of it for 25 years as a public safety complex, at $685,000 a year for the first ten years.

Lifeline says the site is powered by a 4 megawatt solar farm at the facility, backed up by IPL's coal fired power fed from more than one substation, and offers security "anything from FISMA, to Top Secret". In 2016 it said it had 120,000 square feet across its Indianapolis sites, and its owners, Rich Banta and Alex Carroll, were then shielding a new $17.5 million data center in Fort Wayne against electromagnetic pulse.

Lifeline also used to rent space in the downtown carrier hotel at 733 West Henry Street, and in July 2022 it told customers it would leave at the end of the year because the new owner, Netrality, was raising its rent by 300 percent; its other two Indiana data centers were at 401 North Shadeland Avenue and in Fort Wayne. Netrality answered that the lease had run "for over 15 years without any escalation in the rental rate" and in January 2023 bought Lifeline's colocation business there.

Southwest of the corner of Washington Street and Shadeland Avenue, on a former Ford factory site near Irvington Community Elementary School, DC Blox has proposed a $2 billion data center campus. The Metropolitan Development Commission approved it on 15 July 2026, and on 14 August neighbors and Irvington Community Schools went to court for a judicial review. A month later, on 19 August 2026, the same commission voted 6 to 0 for a moratorium on new data centers in Indianapolis through 2027.
