MSP1 Data Center, Eagan, Minnesota

Centra is converting the former Thomson Reuters data center at 610 Opperman Drive in Eagan, Dakota County, Minnesota into MSP1, a data center using 12 megawatts of power for network and cloud connections. Centra broke ground in August 2025, and the network provider Arvig said in March 2026 that the facility, then under construction, was set to open in the summer of 2026. That summer target has passed; no result on the opening has been published.

The 150,000-square-foot building, built around 1989, will house multiple tenants and network providers on land Thomson Reuters sold to Ryan Cos., which is redeveloping the rest of the site for industrial and residential use. Centra plans refrigerant-based cooling, with free cooling for nearly half the year, and green power under Dakota Electric's renewable programs. Centra, formerly Deep Edge and backed by Columbia Capital, also runs network connection sites in Reno, Portland, Maine, Charlotte and Columbus.

In February 2026 the Eagan City Council voted unanimously for a one-year pause on new data center projects using more than 20 megawatts of power or sited within 500 feet of homes; MSP1, a 12 megawatt conversion already under construction, was not covered. Resident Leo Caravello told the council: "Water is a reason many data centers here today have been coming to Minnesota, and while we have an abundant supply of water, we do not have an infinite amount."

Eagan already has four data centers, two built and two under construction, all 20 megawatts of power or smaller. The pause, which Mayor Mike Maguire's council approved to study the industry's effects on energy, water and zoning, ends February 17, 2027.
