The Pyote data center in Ward County, Texas, run by bitcoin miner Genesis Digital Assets, is being converted to work for artificial intelligence companies. Data center developer AiOnX bought a 77 percent stake in Genesis Digital Assets for $500 million in a deal that closed June 15, 2026, and plans to convert the site's computing power, now used to mine bitcoin, to run AI and heavy computing work instead.

Genesis Digital Assets announced the West Texas site in November 2021 as a bitcoin mining operation with a planned capacity of 300 megawatts of power, drawing electricity from the Texas grid run by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, known as ERCOT. By February 2025 the company had energized 195 megawatts at Pyote, adding two 20-megawatt buildings, and said on its website the site could expand to 370 megawatts.

SWI Group, AiOnX's parent company, said Genesis Digital Assets operates 15 crypto data centers in the United States and Sweden with 1.3 gigawatts, or 1,300 megawatts, of power available, and that all of them will be converted for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing, the heavy calculations AI systems need.

"Power connectivity is the most valuable commodity in digital infrastructure today, and converting legacy cryptocurrency mining infrastructure to AI and high-performance computing is the best and highest use of these assets," said SWI founder and chief executive Max-Herve George.

AiOnX and SWI Group now control the decisions on converting Pyote to AI work. Neither company has said when construction at the site might start or named a customer for the converted capacity.
