Expedient data centers: 13 sites mapped

Expedient is not a hyperscale developer or a builder of gigawatt campuses. It sells colocation and managed cloud services from about a dozen data centers across the Midwest and East, most of them in buildings it leases rather than owns.

AMP Capital bought the company in 2019 in a deal reported at more than $500 million. DigitalBridge became its investment manager in 2022 after buying the infrastructure equity business of AMP's subsidiary Collimate Capital for $328 million, a group of holdings that included Expedient.

Ohio is where Expedient has been most active, and where it has started buying rather than renting. In February 2024 it took over a former Nationwide Mutual Insurance data center at 281 E. Powell Road in Lewis Center, north of Columbus: 102,000 square feet built in 1985, with four carriers and 3 megawatts of power to be raised to 7.5 megawatts.

Two years later it exercised a purchase option on 5700 Innovation Drive in Dublin, a 29,210-square-foot building with 4.8 megawatts of power that Five 9s Digital had built for it in 2016; the deal closed in March 2026.

In Franklin, outside Milwaukee, the investment firm StratCap bought Expedient's leased data center in August 2022: a 28,500-square-foot building built originally for Harley-Davidson in 2008, with 1.2 megawatts of critical load that can be doubled.
