Hut 8 data centers: 4 sites mapped

Hut 8, a Miami-based company that made its name in bitcoin mining, is now developing three AI data center campuses in the US. The furthest along is River Bend in West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, about 30 miles north of Baton Rouge: a 15-year, $7.0 billion lease covering 245 megawatts of IT capacity, with Fluidstack as tenant and Google backstopping the lease payments. Entergy Louisiana has secured an initial 330 megawatts of utility capacity, and the first data hall is due in the second quarter of 2027. Parish President Kenny Havard called it "a generational opportunity."

In Nueces County, Texas, Hut 8 is building Beacon Point, a 525-acre campus near Robstown. An unnamed "high-investment-grade tenant" signed a 352MW lease there in May 2026 and a second lease in July 2026 that doubled its contracted IT capacity to 704 MW, on a 1GW interconnection agreement. Hut 8's Hailey Miller said cooling water for the closed-loop system would be trucked in from outside the county: "Under no circumstance will we use municipal water for cooling."

Illinois is where Hut 8 has been fought. It proposed the 500-megawatt Logan Prairie Data Center on farmland in Laenna Township, near Latham in Logan County; the county board passed a 12-month moratorium 6-4 in May 2026, which the state's attorney later called not legally binding because it skipped the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Hut 8 then offered Latham, a village of 350 people, $8 million to $11 million a year for 15 years to annex and rezone the site. Village President Theodore Allen, who once opposed the project, backed the deal, but by late July told Illinois Times the plan would fail if put to a vote. The August 3 village meeting was cancelled, and the county's August hearings were also called off after the state's attorney found technical mistakes in Hut 8's applications.
