Data centers in Saudi Arabia: 7 projects mapped
Saudi Arabia's data center building is led by the state. Humain, the AI company Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launched in May 2025 under the Public Investment Fund, broke ground on its first two data centers in Riyadh and Dammam, each starting at 100 megawatts of power. Both were due to go live in the second quarter of 2026; no opening has been announced. On the Red Sea coast, Humain and DataVolt have started building 100 megawatts of a 360-megawatt first phase at Neom's Oxagon industrial district, due in 2028.
The biggest plan is in east Riyadh, where Humain has tendered the power network for a 6-gigawatt campus on a 24-square-kilometer site in the Al-Saad area, to be built in six 1-gigawatt plots. Humain says it has secured 211 plots of land across the kingdom but will not say where. Its partners include Amazon Web Services, Saudi Telecom and Elon Musk's xAI, which plans a 500-megawatt data center with it.
Heat is the local problem. A Rest of World and Climate Central analysis found nearly all of the kingdom's data centers sit in regions too hot for efficient operation. The consultancy Alvarez & Marsal puts installed capacity at about 410 megawatts today, rising to about 1 gigawatt by 2030 in its base case, far below what has been announced.
