Data centers in Wyandotte County, Kansas: 1 project mapped

Project Red Wolf, a proposed $12 billion, 600-megawatt data center campus on 548 acres on both sides of Parallel Parkway near Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, is held up by a residents' lawsuit over its zoning. The developer, Red Wolf DCD Properties, is owned by Aaron Wolofsky of Brooklyn, New York, and has not named an end user. The lawsuit was still pending in late January 2026; no ruling has been published since.

After neighbors filed protest petitions, the north-side rezoning failed on July 31, 2025, a 7-3 vote short of the supermajority needed. The south side went ahead after eight people withdrew their signatures; organizer Steve Sessions said Red Wolf's law firm wrote and notarized the withdrawal letters. On October 29, 2025 a judge refused to dismiss the suit over the south tract. "The risk to our health and the risk to our bills of just inviting this kind of real estate flipper style of data center from Red Wolf is great," said Ty Gorman of the Sierra Club.

Two more projects are in early talks with the Board of Public Utilities, the county's public power company: Project Yardbird, a 200-megawatt data center in the retired Quindaro coal plant, and Project Linda, also 200 megawatts, whose site has not been made public. Together with Red Wolf they would need about 1,000 megawatts, twice the utility's current peak of about 500. None had signed agreements in January 2026. BPU's finance chief, Andrew Ferris, said developers would get no special rates and would pay all their own substation costs.
