Data centers in Johnson County, Kansas: 5 projects mapped
Beale Infrastructure has started grading for a $3.1 billion data center campus on about 290 acres near Edgerton Road and 103rd Street in De Soto, with up to four buildings built in phases through about 2035. In Edgerton, the City Council has approved DAMAC Digital's $860 million data center in a warehouse at 31800 W. 196th Street, and the city is in court trying to void a residents' petition that would ban such projects. As of mid-August no hearing date had been set.
In De Soto the land was already zoned for the use, so the project needed no rezoning or public hearing, the city says. The city approved property and sales tax exemptions on up to $50 billion in industrial revenue bonds in August 2025, and the first phase's site plan has conditional approval. Evergy will supply the power. Beale has also listed plans for a campus of several buildings on 300 acres near 191st Street and South Clare Road in Gardner.

Edgerton's fight is at Logistics Park Kansas City. On June 15, 2026 the council voted 3-2 against a six-month moratorium, and on July 16 it unanimously overrode the planning commission's rejection of DAMAC's plans. Residents then collected enough signatures, verified by the county election office, to force the council to adopt a ban on high-impact data centers or put it to a vote. The council did neither and sued, saying the petition gets facts wrong: Edgerton supplies neither the water, which comes from Rural Water District No. 7, nor the power, which comes from Evergy.
Resident Kim Twente, one of those named in the suit, said the council's approval was "disappointing" but "expected." In Spring Hill, Colossus Data Center Advisors dropped a 316-acre data center plan at 191st Street and Renner Road in March 2026 after residents objected.
