Data centers in Coshocton County, Ohio: 1 project mapped

Aligned Data Centers is developing a multibillion-dollar data center campus on 197 acres in the Conesville Industrial Park, next to the closed AEP Conesville coal plant, about 63 miles northeast of Columbus. Renderings show up to four buildings. When it announced the project in 2025, Aligned said it had a customer for the first building and aimed to deliver its first capacity by mid-2026.

The site replaces what was once the county's big employer. American Electric Power closed the 2,000-megawatt Conesville coal plant in 2020 after more than 60 years, and the Frontier Group of Companies bought it the same year and turned it into a 2,500-acre industrial park.

Not everyone in the county is sold. Andrew Frank, a social worker who grew up in Coshocton, has sued the Coshocton Port Authority, saying the public was not given enough information before the project began. He wants to know how much water the campus will use and what neighbors will pay for electricity once it runs. "People deserve to know what's going into their communities when it's something that could affect the water, could affect the power, could affect your utilities," he told the Ohio Independent.
