Data centers in Fairfield County, Ohio: 2 projects mapped

Vantage Data Centers is building a $2.1 billion campus, OH2, on about 500 acres of former farmland near State Routes 204 and 37 in Millersport, near Buckeye Lake. The company says it will have 696 megawatts of computing capacity in four data center buildings, with construction running from summer 2026 into early 2030. It will run on its own gas power plant, which still needs a state permit: the Ohio Power Siting Board must rule by November 26, 2026. Google also runs a data center on Whiley Road near Lancaster.

The power plant is the fight. Advanced Power, a Boston developer, plans 40 gas turbines, 132 diesel generators and a battery system, all serving Vantage. At a packed siting board hearing at the Millersport school, resident Lorrie Hoover said, "There is no local necessity to have a private, 1,350-megawatt fossil fuel generating station." Others said local officials ignored resistance since the project was announced in May 2025. Union members, most from the Columbus area, spoke in favor.

The state gave Vantage a 50% sales tax break through 2035, worth at least $83 million. Vantage says the campus will employ more than 50 people and use about 15,000 gallons of water a day with closed-loop cooling. Near Lancaster, Tom Bigham, who lives about 200 yards from Google's site, said in 2023 that "it could have been much worse."
