Amazon Web Services is planning a data center campus on about 590 acres in Jefferson Township near Jeffersonville, bounded by Interstate 71, State Route 729 and Milledgeville-Jeffersonville Road, next to the Honda and LG battery plant at the Midwest Mega Commerce Center. Amazon paid just over $102 million for the land in 2025 and has committed $5 billion to the county through 2030. A 2024 federal energy filing said the first phase could start operating in September 2026.

Power costs drew the first objection. The Ohio Consumers' Counsel told federal regulators that new transmission for the first phase would cost more than $22 million and that the utility, AES Ohio, planned to seek to spread those costs across its customers. "Amazon pays transmission costs at rates established by utility regulators to make sure we are paying our fair share of the costs for electricity," Amazon spokesperson Virginia Milazzo said.

Land around the site is being annexed into Jeffersonville. In August 2026 the county commissioners accepted petitions to annex 61 more acres along State Route 729 near I-71, filings that listed Amazon Data Services as a neighbor, weeks after 490 acres were annexed. Jefferson Township asked the commissioners to refuse annexations without a joint economic development agreement, and Paint Township resident Dan Drake asked for a pause on data centers there while a land use plan is written.
