AWS Jefferson Township (Fayette County) data center, Jeffersonville, Ohio

Amazon Web Services plans a data center campus in Jefferson Township, outside Jeffersonville in Fayette County, Ohio, next to the Honda and LG electric vehicle battery plant near Interstate 71 and U.S. Route 35. Amazon Data Services bought 589.8 acres in two parcels from the Martin Land Co. in January 2025 for $102.4 million, and AWS says it will invest an estimated $5 billion in Fayette County by 2030. The project remains proposed, and Amazon has not said when construction would begin.

AWS vice president Roger Wehner said the campus would generate more than a hundred AWS jobs over five years, and the building trades council expects up to 1,500 union construction jobs. The Fayette County Commissioners granted AWS a Community Reinvestment Area agreement with a 30-year, 100 percent tax exemption on new structures at the site, and the county and Jefferson Township changed their zoning codes to list data centers as a permitted use on industrial land.

At an April 2026 briefing for the commissioners, Ohio State University researcher Gabriel Lade said a new AES power station in Jefferson Township was built to support the Honda and LG plant and the coming AWS data centers, and that a separate gas-fired plant is planned in the township to power the servers off the grid. Lade told commissioners that data centers usually employ fewer people than manufacturing plants for the money invested, and commissioners said the county must remain "prepared, informed, and managed responsibly."

Amazon has kept further project details, including a construction timeline, under wraps. Any further local approvals would run through the Fayette County Commissioners and Jefferson Township, which have already rewritten their zoning to allow data centers on industrial land.
