AWS New Albany data center, New Albany, Ohio

AWS New Albany is Amazon's original data center campus at 13360 Miller Rd NW in New Albany, Licking County, Ohio, part of the wave of large data center projects Amazon Web Services started when it arrived in the New Albany International Business Park in 2015. The city's construction list shows AWS Building A there, a 251,265 square foot data center at Miller and Beech roads, plus a security control building.

Between 2015 and 2024 Amazon invested $6.2 billion in AWS data center infrastructure in Licking County, the city says, and in 2024 alone AWS paid $3.1 million in property taxes and fees there while supporting an average of 1,550 full-time equivalent jobs a year. "Amazon continues to be one of New Albany's most trusted and forward-thinking partners," Mayor Sloan Spalding said.

The city trades partial property tax abatement for minimum annual payments, so a data center with 200 to 250 employees brings in as much as an office complex with 2,000 workers, community development director Jennifer Chrysler told News 5 Cleveland. The business park gets water and sewer service from Columbus, and every data center there, including this one, operates under an agreement capping its water use, Chrysler said. New Albany has received only four noise complaints since 2015, officials said.

By May 2026 the business park had 40 data centers open and 28 more planned or being built, for companies including Google, Meta and Amazon. Across Ohio, local governments have moved the other way: Ohio had over 125 active data center moratoriums by September 2026, the Ohio Capital Journal reported.

Tax deals for new AWS buildings in New Albany go through the New Albany City Council. Amazon's newer expansion on nearby Beech Road, bought separately in 2020 and 2022, is a different project from this Miller Road campus.
