Data centers in Grimes County, Texas: 1 project mapped

Grimes County has one data center project on record: Cipher Digital's Milsing site, which the company lists in its pipeline at 500 megawatts of power with a completion target of 2030 or later. No formal application for it has been filed with the county. Rumors that a separate company, Geronimo Power, held a contract on about 800 acres for a possible data center drew resident pushback starting in March 2026, KBTX reported.

Bedias residents packed county meetings over water. "Water is a precious, precious resource," said resident Jodi Pistler, and Karen Shiver of Bedias said she was "most concerned about our water." County Judge Joe Fauth said in May that no proposals were on file: "rumors are just that. They're rumors." He added that the county has little power over a landowner's sale: "when you live in the county, the restrictions that the court has put on landowners are very few."

The county's tax fight over a different project set the tone. On June 3, 2026 it created a 21,000-acre reinvestment zone and approved a 35-year, 100 percent tax abatement for the SpaceX-linked Terafab chip plant at the Gibbons Creek Reservoir, with $20 million a year in payments to the county, The Eagle reported. In July, Fauth brought a resolution backing "responsible data center and associated technologies development" and opposing high-volume water cooling in dry areas, but the court tabled it for more public comment. "We're not going out and soliciting these companies," Fauth said. "They've all come to us." Resident Bobbie Jo Swaffer told the court, "One thing is undeniable. Public trust was damaged."
