Amazon Web Services is turning the old Delphi Packard Electric plant at 1001 Industrial Park Drive in Clinton, Hinds County, Mississippi, into a data center. A quitclaim deed moved the 99-acre site to Amazon on February 13, 2026, when the project was valued at $750 million.

Amazon Web Services marked the opening of its fourth Mississippi data center with a ribbon cutting on June 9, 2026, an investment the company said could bring more than 100 jobs. "This is an exciting day in Mississippi," said Roger Wehner, AWS vice president of economic development, adding that the Clinton building uses newer approaches to operations, including not using water coolants.

More than three months after the AWS announcement, the Board of Aldermen had drafted a separate ordinance on buffers, screening and setbacks for future data centers, though it had not yet voted on it as of July 2026. The board had already changed Clinton's zoning so data centers are a conditional use in industrial areas, and any new project must go through a public hearing before the Planning Commission; neither rule applies retroactively to the Amazon building, which still must meet existing zoning and noise rules.
