AWS Mesa Pecos Road (PHX065) data center, Mesa, Arizona

Amazon's Project PHX65 is a proposed two-building data center campus on 71.3 acres on the north side of Pecos Road, east of Signal Butte Road, in southeast Mesa, Maricopa County, Arizona. Amazon Data Services filed site plans for two data center buildings with 264 parking spaces, and the Mesa Design Review Board discussed the project's look and landscaping on May 14, 2024.

The two data halls would each be about 227,000 square feet. Amazon bought the Pecos Road site in December 2021 for slightly more than $18 million, near the Legacy Park sports complex; it had earlier been considered for a last-mile delivery hub, a plan that was shelved. Amazon filed nearly identical plans for a second site, 42.9 acres next to the Apple data center at Signal Butte and Elliot roads.

Pecos Road is filling with data centers. At Pecos and Crismon roads, NTT won a 4-0 Planning and Zoning Board recommendation for a seven-building, 2.3 million square foot campus with closed-loop cooling and an on-site substation, after buying 170 acres from Pacific Proving for $300 million. Mesa created a 5-mile technology corridor between Signal Butte and Hawes roads in 2014, where Apple, Google, EdgeCore, Meta and Novva already operate.

Amazon's site plans still need approval from Mesa's Planning and Zoning Board and city council. No construction start has been reported for PHX65, and the most recent reporting on the project dates from 2024.
