Blueprint Projects data center, Taylor, Texas

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said on September 17, 2026, that he is investigating the Blueprint Projects data center at 1601 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Taylor, Williamson County, Texas, because the land was deeded in 1999 "to be held in trust for future use as parkland." The company, BPP Projects LLC, plans a 135,000-square-foot, 30-megawatt data center there in three phases, with up to $1 billion invested over ten years and 20 to 30 jobs.

In July 1999, members of the Cromwell family sold the 52-acre site to the Texas Parks and Recreation Foundation for $10 with a deed saying it was to be held in trust for future parkland. The parkland language dropped out of later deeds, and the city says the 1999 note was not a deed restriction; it says the land has been zoned industrial since 1970 and was designated an employment center in 2023.

Pamela Griffin, who lives about 500 feet from the site and played on the land as a child, sued in 2025 with three siblings and a neighbor to enforce the deed. At the council's unanimous approval vote in July 2025, neighbors wore red X's in protest and complained of a "complete lack of transparency and meaningful communication."

In October 2025 Judge Ryan Larson of the 395th District Court dismissed the case, ruling the residents lacked standing; they have appealed, and no action had been taken on the appeal by mid-September 2026. Paxton said, "If the Taylor data center development is unlawful, I will do everything in my power to stop it and hold those who have violated the law accountable," and added that he may seek court intervention.

HALT co-founder Carrie D'Anna welcomed the probe but warned it would matter little without an injunction: "If he doesn't attach an injunction to this investigation, what he's doing is making a clear pathway for (the data center developers) to continue their work." The city said it would cooperate fully with the investigation; what happens next rests with the courts and the attorney general, on the residents' appeal and on whether Paxton goes to court over the deed.
