CyrusOne Vint Hill Data Center, Warrenton, Virginia

CyrusOne's proposed Vint Hill data center campus would put four two-story buildings, about 870,000 square feet in all, on 47 acres at the southwest corner of Vint Hill Road and Vint Hill Parkway near Warrenton, in Fauquier County, Virginia. The site is in Vint Hill's Planned Commercial Industrial Development District, one of two zoning districts in the county where large data centers were allowed by right, and CyrusOne submitted its first site plan in March 2024.

C1 Vint Hill, LLC, affiliated with CyrusOne, paid $89,383,312 for the 47.7 acres, nearly $2 million an acre and a Fauquier record, buying from a subsidiary of Zumot Real Estate Management that had paid $8.75 million in September 2021. County meeting notes suggested the buildings would be air-cooled, and a space directly south owned by NOVEC may hold a substation to power the complex; neither the drawings nor the notes said how much power it would use.

Fauquier's Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 on March 15, 2024 to require a special exception permit for buildings over 50,000 square feet at Vint Hill, ending by-right data center construction there, but the change did not apply to CyrusOne's campus or an OVHcloud expansion already under way. CyrusOne had asked to be left out of the new rule, and the board included its project in a grandfathering provision. Supervisor Ike Broaddus noted that CyrusOne's buildings would be only 45 feet tall, while Vint Hill Conservancy president Chris Zumot called the new rule "an abomination that will only deter businesses from coming to Vint Hill."

As of August 2024, county comments on CyrusOne's first site plan submission had been returned to the company. With the campus grandfathered, the county's site plan review is what remains before construction can start.
