DATA CENTER VINT HILL, Warrenton, Virginia

OVHcloud runs its first U.S. data center at 6872 Watson Court in Vint Hill, near Warrenton in Fauquier County, Virginia, inside a former Army base, and the French cloud company is expanding it with a second building. On September 17, 2026, Fauquier's Planning Commission recommended limiting new data centers to the Vint Hill area and requiring a special exception permit and public hearing for each one; the Board of Supervisors will decide whether to adopt the change.

OVHcloud bought the 84,200-square-foot building on 8.6 acres from real estate investor Rajai Zumot for $4.8 million in October 2016 and opened the data center in 2017. Governor Terry McAuliffe announced the project in 2016, with OVH planning to invest $47 million and create 54 jobs, backed by a $1.25 million state grant and county tax and infrastructure incentives. OVHcloud has bought 10.81 more acres nearby for a planned second building of 120,000 square feet, and the county has not said when it will take up that application.

Neighboring developers want to grow too: CyrusOne has filed plans for a four-building, 870,000-square-foot campus on 47 acres at Vint Hill Road and Vint Hill Parkway, and Vint Hill Corners LLC proposes one or two buildings on about 50 acres at 4295 Aiken Drive. The Piedmont Environmental Council says the Vint Hill Planned Commercial Industrial District has already allowed 1.3 million square feet of data centers without a public hearing.

In March 2024 the Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to require a special exception permit and public comment for any data center building over 50,000 square feet in that district, though the OVHcloud expansion and the CyrusOne campus were exempted because they were already under way. Supervisor Ike Broaddus said OVHcloud had "proven itself to be a quiet neighbor," while Vint Hill Conservancy president Chris Zumot called the district's growth "an abomination that will only deter businesses from coming to Vint Hill."

The Planning Commission's September 2026 amendment says the district "is not to become the 'Data Center District,'" and that data centers should stay "secondary and compatible" with other uses there. The Board of Supervisors has not yet set a date to vote on the recommendation.
