Data centers in Fauquier County, Virginia: 11 projects mapped
Warrenton's town council approved a special use permit for a 220,000-square-foot Amazon data center on Blackwell Road in February 2023, and voters replaced every council member who had backed it in the November 2024 election. The new council, made up entirely of opponents, still faces a 2023 lawsuit by Citizens for Fauquier County over that permit. Both sides argued the case in Fauquier County Circuit Court on June 16, 2026, and Judge Stephen Sincavage has not ruled or set a timetable for a ruling.
The town itself now argues against its own permit. Town attorney Philip Carter Strother told the judge that Warrenton "no longer shares Amazon's litigation alignment," after the council banned data centers from industrial zoning in July 2025, a ban that came too late to stop Amazon's project. Amazon and the plaintiffs also disagree over whether a 30-day deadline to challenge the underlying zoning change has already passed.
Ten other projects are on record around the county. In Remington, PointOne's 300-megawatt Remington Technology Park has been approved, while Gigaland's 800-megawatt campus, Convergent's 240-megawatt campus and SDC Capital's Remington Innovation Campus have all been withdrawn; SAMX Data Center is still proposed. Near Warrenton, CyrusOne and Vint Hill Corners have proposed projects and OVHcloud's Vint Hill facility is operating and expanding. Catlett Data Center Park, in Catlett, was cancelled. No ruling date has been set in the Amazon case.
