Davis-Monthan Air Force Base data center site, Tucson, Arizona

The U.S. Air Force is offering about 300 acres on the west side of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, Pima County, Arizona, for a private company to build a data center, one of five military bases it put up for lease in October 2025. Proposals were due November 14, 2025, and the Air Force has not named a developer since. The site borders a Tucson Electric Power plant, and the base pumps its own well water rather than drawing from the city.

The same lease offer covers Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee, Edwards in California, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and Robins in Georgia. Under President Trump's executive order on federal data center permitting, each project must involve at least $500 million in spending and clear the federal size threshold for a data center. Applicants must bring their own water and power supply, and the Air Force did not say where either would come from. Environmental surveys would be paid for by whichever company wins the lease.

Because the base supplies its own water, the Tucson City Council's refusal to supply water to the nearby Project Blue data center may not apply here, though state regulators could weigh in if pumping affects the city's supply. "We'll need to review the details coming up, but our stance has always been not one drop for data," said Vivek Bharathan of the No Desert Data Center Coalition, which is also fighting Project Blue nearby. "No matter where these things are built, you'll see our community show up," Bharathan said.
