Vantage Data Centers' CWL1 campus in Newport, Wales, is one of Europe's largest data center campuses, with 148 megawatts of power under management. In August 2026 Vantage agreed to lease capacity there to the cloud company Nebius, its first announced commercial deal in the South Wales AI Growth Zone, a government designation meant to speed up planning and grid connections. The campus has operated since 2010, first as Next Generation Data in a former LG Electronics factory, before Vantage bought it in 2020.

Newport City Council approved four three-story data centers behind the main building in September 2020, and in March 2021 approved a two-story "Data Centre 3" with ten data halls for a single hyperscale customer, backed by six 1.6-megawatt diesel generators per hall. When the council approved Data Centre 3, Councillor John Guy said: "It's fantastic to see this futuristic development but my concern is the scientific emissions and the actual sound," according to the South Wales Argus.

Vantage says the campus's electricity use is matched with certified renewable energy and that its newest buildings use closed-loop cooling to limit water use. UK AI minister Kanishka Narayan said of the Nebius deal: "The infrastructure at Newport will create new high skilled jobs in South Wales." An August 2026 review of government records found little sign yet that AI Growth Zone status had sped up planning activity in South Wales.
