Data centers in Bartow County, Georgia: 4 projects mapped
Two large data center campuses are under construction in Bartow County and a third is approved. Project Bunkhouse, on the 876-acre Gaines farm on Taff Road near Stilesboro, was rezoned in June 2025 for Taurus DC SPE LLC and will be run by Digital Realty; the county says it is planned for about 1,300 megawatts of power and $18 billion. Switch is building a campus on about 126 acres outside Cartersville, and on September 3, 2026 the Cartersville City Council approved DataBank's Project Indo, a 200-megawatt campus with two 664,000-square-foot buildings at 218 Industrial Park Road.
Bartow is run by a single commissioner, Steve Taylor, and he has welcomed data centers. "I think five or six would maybe be our limit, as far as our appetite for them," he said in July 2026, adding that two or three more are in the pipeline. The county says it has given the data centers no tax abatements, and Taylor intends to use the new revenue to raise homestead exemptions for homeowners.

Not every plan went through. After the county planning commission voted 6-1 in April 2025 to recommend denial, Atlas Development withdrew Project Springbank, six buildings totaling about 2.27 million square feet on 630 acres on Barnsley Gardens Road near Adairsville. More than 2,000 people had signed a petition against it, and Barnsley Resort's president, David Friederich, called it "an existential threat" to the resort.
On July 1, 2026, Taylor adopted stricter rules for new data centers: closed-loop cooling only, noise capped at 65 decibels by day and 55 at night at the nearest homes, a 200-foot buffer from residential districts, a 50-acre minimum site, and on-site power plants capped at 300 megawatts.
