Data centers in Montgomery County, Missouri: 2 projects mapped

Amazon and Google are both building data centers on opposite sides of Interstate 70 east of New Florence, a town of about 635 people, covering about 1,900 acres of a 5,000-acre industrial site. Amazon's $10 billion Project Green, north of the highway, was approved by the County Commission in December 2025 and broke ground on April 1, 2026. Google's $15 billion Project Spade, announced in May 2026, is going up south of the highway on the former Hoette Farms tree nursery.

Both come with tax breaks. Amazon gets personal property tax exemptions of 75% to 95% from 2028 to 2052, worth $244 million to $982 million by the county's own analysis, but pays full real estate taxes; Presiding Commissioner Ryan Poston said the schools would collect $1.4 billion from Amazon over 25 years. Google gets a 70% break on servers and other equipment in return for $10 million a year for 20 years, including $500,000 a year each to High Hill, New Florence, Wellsville, Middletown and the Gasconade County school district.

Residents in the group Preserve Montgomery County sued in February to halt the Amazon project, saying the county gave improper public notice and did not disclose enough about water, power and the tax deal. On September 18, 2026, Cole County Circuit Judge Cotton Walker refused to dismiss most of the case, so it can go forward; no further hearing has been scheduled. Poston has said the sites, about 0.8 miles from town, will be "quieter than the interstate." Ameren Missouri, which will supply the power, declined to estimate how much the two will use.
