Data centers in Mercer County, New Jersey: 1 project mapped

East Windsor has paused new data centers until December 31, 2027. In June 2026 the township adopted Ordinance 2026-06, an 18-month moratorium on further data center development while it waits for state review and regulation. The township already has one: QTS has run a data center there, first built by McGraw-Hill, for about 12 years, and plans for a second data center on the same site had been approved.

That expansion, and a redevelopment ordinance that could have allowed a data center at Probasco Road and Wykoff Mills Road, drew a wave of community concern. "There are a large number of public concerns and questions in our communities, many of which require statewide guidance and regulations," said Mayor Janice Mirinov. The ordinance asks the state to make big energy users pay their own energy costs rather than homeowners, to require public reporting of energy and water use, and to set standards for noise, heat and emissions.

Elsewhere in the county, officials say no one has asked. Hopewell Township allows data centers only as part of another permitted use, like the one serving the Princeton West Innovation Campus, built for Bristol-Myers Squibb. Princeton's council president said AI data centers have not come before the council. In West Windsor, an online listing suggests Switch is considering a 150-megawatt data center campus, but Mayor Marathe said he had never heard of it and no permits have been filed.
