The biggest possible data center in Burlington County is on federal land. In October 2025 the Air Force offered land at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, one of five bases, to private companies for AI data centers needing more than 100 megawatts of power and worth at least $500 million. It first planned to choose in January 2026; the proposal deadline later fell on May 29, 2026, and no selection for the New Jersey base has been announced.
Pemberton Township became the first New Jersey town to ban data centers when it passed Ordinance 10-2026 on February 20, 2026, to "prohibit the construction and operation of data centers." The Pinelands Alliance said the township, already worn down by the warehouse boom, chose to get ahead of developers this time rather than wait for a proposal.
Moorestown backed out of a small data center plan. It had picked New Urban LLC to build an edge data center, with solar panels over half the site, on the 25-acre former Pulverizer Services property on New Albany Road. New Urban's draft agreement dropped the data center and the solar array and asked for a tax break it had said it would not seek, so the council let the deal lapse on October 31, 2025, and plans to seek new proposals in 2026. Comcast already runs an office and data center on Centerton Road in Moorestown.
