Amazon's plans for Floyd County surfaced through state filings. Amazon Data Services has filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to build three data center buildings, together called Horizon Junction, at 1782 and 1774 County Road 241 in Floydada, each 189,060 square feet and $300 million, with construction running from August 2026 to April 2027, Data Center Dynamics reported. The site currently holds the nine-hole Floydada County Club golf course; DCD found no public announcement that the club is closing.
The county has little power to shape it. Floyd County commissioners say their limited authority leaves them few tools over what could grow to seven buildings on about 485 acres worth more than $1 billion, RFD News reported in August 2026. They are weighing a Chapter 312 tax abatement that would require air-cooled systems, to limit groundwater use, and require the project to generate its own power so it does not compete with homes, farms and businesses during shortages.
