Southern Denmark already has Google's large data center in Fredericia and Meta's outside Odense, and several much bigger ones are planned along the west coast. Microsoft plans three data centers in Varde and Esbjerg municipalities: on Ringkøbingvej north of Tinghøj, on Kastkærvej between Lunde and Nørre Nebel, and on Kirkebrovej west of Bramming, with building to start in 2027. Prime Data Centers has begun the environmental review for ESB01, a 550-megawatt campus on Nordre Tovrupvej in Esbjerg, and atNorth plans DEN02, starting at 250 megawatts, north of Ølgod.
Neighbors of DEN02 at Krageris, north of Ølgod, face a data center up to 25 meters (82 feet) tall and three or four large greenhouses. "When we were told there would be a data center out there, we were quite shocked and frightened," Hans Graversen, who lives about 250 meters away, told TV Syd. Danish rules pay neighbors for lost home value near wind and solar farms but not data centers; resident Zanne Munk said two real estate agents declined to try to sell her house. Deals have been made to buy out eight homeowners near the site.

In Bramming, two members of a residents' dialogue group took five questions to Esbjerg's council, saying Esbjerg, Microsoft and the local council "have been very sparing with information and shown no interest in having an open debate." Microsoft says its three sites will employ about 500 people once running. TV Syd found that Meta's Danish operating company had 74 employees in 2024 and Google's 38, though Google says more than 100 contractors work at Fredericia full time.
In Aabenraa, Google's Danish company, Dapsi International, has applied to build Data Center Kassø: four buildings on about 105 hectares of farmland beside the Kassø high-voltage substation, 2 kilometers from Hjordkær, with up to 185 diesel backup generators. The municipality set the scope of its environmental review on April 27, 2026. Next, Dapsi must deliver an environmental report, which goes out for public comment together with the draft permits.
