Amazon is building Project Galaxy, a $3 billion data center campus on the north side of Millcreek Road in Sidney, in Shelby County, Ohio. Sidney City Council approved a 30-year, 100 percent property tax abatement for it on October 27, 2025, and in April 2026 approved water and development agreements for the site. As of April 2026, City Manager Jon Crusey said the site plan was still under review and would be approved by city staff, not council.

The tax break is worth between $180 million and $350 million over 30 years, or $2.4 million to $4.6 million for each of the 75 permanent jobs it is meant to bring. "That is not a fair trade for Sidney taxpayers, especially given the 30-year duration of the abatement," resident Maria Cera wrote in the Sidney Daily News. Two resident groups formed in response, Sidney Citizens for Responsible Development and Sidney Citizens Data Center Watch.

In April 2026 the council approved a water agreement letting the campus draw up to 1 million gallons a day, though its projected use is 12,600 gallons a day, and a deal for Amazon to put up to $8 million toward widening Millcreek Road. At the meeting, resident Anne Abbott said the project was "approved without the proper research, health studies." Resident Kristin Allen has a separate public records dispute with the city over redacted agreements, pending before the Ohio Court of Claims.

The city's site plan review, handled by staff rather than the council, is the next step before construction can begin.
