Iron Mountain Data Centers data centers: 23 sites mapped

Iron Mountain is building a data center campus in Henrico County's White Oak Technology Park, next to QTS and Meta. Announced in February 2025, the project is four buildings on 66 acres at 6110 Technology Creek Drive, more than 1 million square feet and over 200 megawatts, with an investment above $1 billion. It is listed as proposed. Governor Glenn Youngkin welcomed it, calling Virginia "the data center capital of the world."

In Prince William County, where Iron Mountain has owned land since 2017, supervisors unanimously approved the VA 8/9 rezoning in July 2025, adding just under 19 acres near Wellington Road to the campus. Denying it would have let Iron Mountain build closer to the Arcadia Run apartments by right; the approved plan instead holds buildings 411 feet away, caps height at 75 feet, and draws 48 megawatts from Iron Mountain's own substation. Supervisor Tom Gordy called it the "lesser of [two] evils"; Jefferson voted yes despite her "hesitation."

In northwest Miami-Dade, residents learned only in 2026 of an Iron Mountain data center under construction after ground broke in 2025. Amy Dawkins said a canvasser was the first to tell her: "Nothing ever brought to our attention about a data center." Commissioner Marleine Bastien said county zoning treats data centers as telecommunications hubs, permitted by right on industrial land; the only hearing, in 2023, covered building height and parking. Iron Mountain did not respond to NBC6's requests for comment.
